Beta Caryophyllene & Citronella, Why it works
WE WANTED YOU TO SEE THE SCIENCE FOR YOURSELVESThis is going to be short, sweet and to the point. We will be writing a longer blog post about the science found in these articles later, but for now we thought it best to just give you the resources to find out for yourselves. We want you to know that we do our research and every product we make is backed by science. So here are some scientific papers and studies that show what we are talking about. We know they can be a little difficult to read but we wanted you to have access to the exact sources we have.
So if you like Science and a dry read we hope you enjoy.
Study shows Beta caryophyllene inhibits histamine-triggered swelling and inflammation. (we release histamine when bitten by Mosquitoes and other insects)
The study talks in detail about the Anti- Inflammatory and healing properties of Beta - Caryophyllene (BCP). This happens because of BCP's ability to bind to certain pain receptors in the body. These pain receptors are found throughout the body and Beta - Caryophyllene is also found in many other plants that we consume regularly. This study draws connection to the BCP and decreased pain in the body as well as increased ability to heal by activating other cellular receptors throughout the body that aid in the healing process.
This Patent is for the use of certain kinds of naturally occuring chemicals such as but not limited to Beta - Caryophyllene. We are not infringing on this patent as it is the combination of many different chemicals not just the use of Beta - Caryophyllene, as well as the delivery method of application of these chemicals. Though it does serve the purpose of showing and explaining why Beta - Caryophyllene is a suitable Mosquito repellent in detail.
Beta - Caryophyllene as a suitable insect repellent
The use of Terpenes and aromatic compounds produced by plants that affect mosquito antennae olfactory (smell) receptors-(0047). DEET is a synthetic version of these kinds of chemicals. Where as Beta - Caryophyllene is a naturally occurring chemical found in many plants that does this. How these chemicals repel insects is by blocking the insects ability to navigate and see. Many biting insects see, navigate and find their targets by their heightened sense of smell created by their antennae. These chemicals "jam" the sensory receptors in the antennae, making it impossible for the mosquito to navigate properly. Making Beta - Caryophyllene an excellent mosquito repellent.
This study also talks in depth about the anti-inflammatory properties and healing properties of Beta - Caryophyllene. So if you are looking for more evidence and another long dry read on science. Here you go.
Beta - Caryophyllene is anti-inflammatory, decreases pain and a natural analgesic.
This study shows Citronella is the best smell profile for mosquito repellent, longest lasting and assuring the complete protection of the treated skin for 60% longer than the synthetic repellent DEET.
I hope you found this information helpful and that it will help you make decisions on what to buy for your family when it comes to bug repellent. There are many choices out their, but its a lot easier to make a decision when you know how and why some things work and others don't.
