WHAT IS CBD?
Cannabidiol, commonly referred to as CBD is a plant cannabinoid. Humans also produce cannabinoids that are called endogenous cannabinoids. CBD has been scientifically proven to modulate and repair many physiological systems in the human brain and body using the “Endo”cannabinoid system. In our bodies, the endocannabinoid system is responsible for regulating an impressive concert of functions such as appetite, fertility, mood, and pain sensation. They’re also thought to be responsible for the rush that is experienced after vigorous exercise.
THE RISE OF CBD IN ATHLETICS
In October 2017, the World Anti-Doping Authority (WADA) announced that it had removed CBD from its prohibited substances list. This change in policy means that olympic athletes can now use CBD without fear of losing sponsorships or being disqualified from competitions. Although THC is still prohibited, athletes under the jurisdiction of the WADA are now able to incorporate CBD into their self-care regimen to improve their recovery rate and overall wellness.

WHY IS CBD IMPORTANT FOR AN ATHLETE
Research proves CBD promotes cardiovascular, joint, and brain health along with an increase in immune function. Cannabidiol promotes neurogenesis (build new brain cells) and neuroplasticity ( repair damaged brain cells).
Physiologically, CBD acts as a vasodialator, regulates calcium ion production and by doing so can decrease the frequency of muscle spasms and using CB1/CB2 receptors present in bone marrow to rebuild broken bones.
CBD has powerful anti-inflammatory action by modulation cytokine production. Cytokines are the signalling proteins made and secreted by immune cells upon inflammation.
“I WAS OPEN FOR ANYTHING AT THAT POINT TO TRY. AND ONCE I TRIED IT AND WAS CONSISTENT ON CBD, THAT’S WHEN I REALIZED, “WOW, THIS STUFF WORKS”

“IT’S CBD, IT HELPS WITH THE HEALING PROCESS AND INFLAMMATION, STUFF LIKE THAT. SO, CBD IS PERFECT FOR BEFORE AND AFTER FIGHTS AND TRAINING. IT’LL MAKE YOUR LIFE A BETTER PLACE” NATE DIAZ/ Professional UFC Fighter
NFL players, NHL players share similar claims as Diaz about CBD and medical marijuana’s effects, plus an added benefit, which resonates with many — hemp-based compounds could help athletes avoid having to take addictive opioid pain relievers for long-term pain relief.
